Boxy Charm (Luxe) December 2020

December 12, 2020, was an exciting day for me. The long anticipated Boxy Charm Luxe box arrived. And The simple black box was sitting on my counter just waiting for my attention. Have you ever been so excited to receive something that you don't want to open the box right away? That is how I feel every time I receive my Boxy Charm box. But there it was, begging me to open it. Who am I to refuse the call?

The corner of the box was slightly dented. How could the delivery service do this to such a beautifully simple yet elegant box? Don't they know how anticipated this box has become for me? Apparently not. I carefully sliced open the piece of tape that kept me from my treasure and opened the box...

Ah yes, there you are. Bubbles & Glitz, how appropriate. As always, Boxy Charm has packaged their product well so that even with the manhandling the box had received in shipping, it appeared that all of my products were undamaged. As you can see from the picture below, each item is individually wrapped. Thanks, Boxy Charm!

Enough of my dramatics, let's get down to business.

I like the selection of products this month. Here is what I received (with the MSRP of each item):

1. Iconic London--Blaze Chaser Face Palette (MSRP $55.00)

2. Sunday Riley--Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment (MRSP $85.00)

3. Hipdot--Cenote Pressed Eyeshadow Pallete (MSRP $30.00)

4. Luxie--Glitter and Gold Brush Set (MSRP $85.00)

5. Beaut.Beautyco--The original Glam Smile Kit (MSRP $89.00)

6. Avant Skincare--Intensive Redensifying Glycolic Acid Day Moisturizer (MSRP $123.00)

7. Rockins Cosmetics--Hot Mess Threesome Glitter Gel Pens (MSRP $40.00)

8. The Lyfestyle Co.--100% Natural Calming Temple Ruv (MSRP $24.00)

For your information, I have fairly light colored skin which tends to be sensitive . I am in my late 40's now and battle fine lines, combination skin and dark spots; the joys of aging. All in all, I can't complain about my skin, but it does need a little more assistance than it did when I was in my 20's and 30's. I am NOT a beauty blogger. I am just a wife and mother who loves her beauty products. I will leave the beauty blogging to others, but I will give you my general impressions as a woman who has been buying products for more than 30 years.

1. Iconic London--Blaze Chaser Face Palette:

Hello to you, Blaze Chaser Face Palette! These colors are perfect for my light colored skin. The description says "six shades of butter smooth, velvety powders that compliment all skin tones." I cannot argue with the fact that they are butter smooth and velvety. Again, since I received this on a weekend, I have not had the chance to use them correctly, but I did experiment with them on my hand and arm and I love the colors. I think this will indeed be a very versatile palette.

2. Sunday Riley--Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment:

Oh my goodness this smells so good! I have only tried this on a test patch of skin on the back of my hand and I can tell you that I am really looking forward to trying it on my face. It feels light, soaks immediately and smells divine. This one fluid ounce bottle will hopefully battle my dark spots, annoying fine lines and plump my skin. I will update you once I have properly used this product.

3. Hipdot--Cenote Pressed Eyeshadow Pallete:

If you are at all familiar with cenotes, you know they are famous for their gorgeous colors. They can be found in Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico (and around the world). They are subterranean water supplies or sinkholes. This little palette has colors that shimmer and colors that are matte. I am in love with "ancient" and "ojos". I have provided a sample picture below. Some of the colors do not seem as pigmented as others, but, I will know more when I put them in use this week and will provide updates as needed.

4. Luxie--Glitter and Gold Brush Set:

This is a darling little set . It comes with a variety of brushes; although, I am not a brush "purist" and I will use a brush for whatever I want whenever I want. I like the gold handles and the red faux suede case which is bright and cheerful. Honestly, I will likely use this as a travel set because it is compact and the red pouch will be easy to see/find when traveling.

5. Beaut.Beautyco--The original Glam Smile Kit:

The only question you should be asking is, "how fast did you pull this out of the box and try it out?" The answer is, super fast! In the past I have tried a variety of teeth whitening kits from professional whitening at the dentist to Crest Whitestrips. I have had good luck with all of them. Here is what I liked about this system: it was very easy to use and had an instant effect! It is a simple process: prepare the light by removing the plastic piece that keeps the batteries from contacting each other, attach the mouth piece to the light, fill the tray as instructed with the solution, and then find something to do that doesn't require you to talk for the next 15 minutes. I did not take a before and after picture (which I should have) because the results were really good. David noticed a difference in the whiteness of my teeth after the first use. To me, when your husband notices a difference, it is always a win. I look forward to using this teeth whitening kit again.

6. Avant Skincare--Intensive Redensifying Glycolic Acid Day Moisturizer:

I used this first thing this morning and have not put any makeup on over it. My first impression was how good it smells. In fact, my husband even mentioned it. It has a very light floral scent; not overwhelming at all, but if you are sensitive to scents, keep that in mind. So far I have not experienced any redness or issues with my skin. I like having a serum that I can wear during the day which is constantly waging war on those little imperfections. I will post some updates as I use this product longer. Keep in mind that it does suggest using it on a test patch of skin for 24 hours--for me, that was my face, but please do follow the directions.

7. Rockins Cosmetics--Hot Mess Threesome Glitter Gel Pens:

Glitter gel eye pen? Yes, please. I can think of a million ways to wear this and do not need to think of a reason because, frankly, why not? Being a little, erm, older, I was concerned how this makeup would apply to my somewhat thinning lids. To my pleasant surprise, it is very smooth. It glides on like it knows what it is doing! The glitter effect is not "too much" but rather "just enough". I received three colors in the box, a dark blue, darkish green and black. See below for a picture of it on my wrist. Overall, I really like this makeup and will be wearing it tomorrow!

8. The Lyfestyle Co.--100% Natural Calming Temple Ruv:

I tried this immediately. I took it out of it's packaging and...wait...my husband got to it first! He had been battling a headache all day and decided to rub it on his temples . The absolute horror of it! There is a standing rule in my house that no one opens and uses anyone's products first. Rule violated! I digress. Once I got the bottle back, I noticed that it comes with a silver roller on the end which makes for easy application. The blend of oils does smell beautiful. The packaging references lavender, but I believe I can also smell peppermint. I tried it on my temples. I did not have a headache or a tremendous amount of stress at the time, but I am a fan of how it smells and will try it again when I have more pressing "issues".

Is it worth it?

The sum of the MSRP prices listed is $531.00. The luxe box arrives every three months and costs $24.99/month for a total of $74.97. So, financially, it is worth it. But what about the products? Are they products that I will use? Yes, I do like the selection of products in the box. Part of the reason I like Boxy Charm is that it introduces me to products I might not find in the store, might not be familiar with, or might not choose. Boxy Charm pushes me a little out of my comfort zone and beauty product rut and introduces me to new, different and sometimes familiar products. Sure, you run the risk of receiving products in which you have no interest or use. But, that my friends can be solved by tweaking your responses on the app. Overall, yes, I find that the Boxy Charm luxe box is worth it!
